Joseph Durocher is the founder of The Route to Residency. As a non-traditional medical applicant, he is deeply passionate about mentoring the next generation of physicians and serving rural communities. Growing up on Kauaʻi shaped his commitment to expanding access and opportunity for island students pursuing careers in medicine. He created this platform to provide practical, experience-based guidance and to make the path to medical school more attainable for those facing unique geographic and financial barriers. Joseph is especially interested in integrating technology into medicine and pursuing research that advances innovative, accessible healthcare solutions.

Julia Durocher is a pre-Physician Assistant student dedicated to expanding healthcare access in underserved communities. She is passionate about serving rural Hawaiʻi and empowering local students with the guidance and resources needed to pursue medical careers. Recognizing the unique challenges faced by students from island communities, Julia is committed to creating pathways that make healthcare professions more accessible and attainable. She is currently a biochemistry student at Chaminade University of Honolulu, where she is building a strong scientific foundation to support her future clinical work. Through service, mentorship, and advocacy, Julia aims to make a lasting impact in Hawaiʻi’s healthcare landscape.
